I know It’s been a really long time since I used this as a platform for communication and you know what, honestly speaking I’ve really missed blogging! I’m an individual who loves sharing her thoughts, creative ideas and passions with the world, almost nothing is off limits (almost).
I recently turned a year older on the 11th of May and for once in my life I actually had no expectations for birthday, didn’t really make any concrete plans, I simply went with the flow. I’m definitely starting to growing up, I’ve always been a planner and a perfectionist, in my head everything has to be perfect. I’m learning that sometimes you need to just relax and let life happen and simply enjoy the little moments.
This outfit describes my current thought process, simply living and outwardly expressing my emotions wholeheartedly. You will never see me not wearing any color, it’s almost unheard of! This outfit was a last minute mash-up for my dear friends baby shower, the dress code was “black and white with a touch of gold”. This was honestly the best I could come up with while sticking to my personal style (vintage-boho chic). I’m currently obsessed with the bell sleeve trend. My faux leather skirt adds a chic, edgy, elegant and sophisticated touch to the overall look.
The braids were inspired by one of my favorite French bloggers and I personally think my hair stylist did an exceptional job. This is the perfect girl boss combo, a really chic outfit and (dope) warrior inspired hair do.
My word of encouragement for this month is: Always be a girl boss, you’re the leading lady of your life, you call the shots, make and sometimes break your own rules.
In the spirit of Mother’s Day I want to acknowledge three really incredible and important girl bosses in my life. My Mother, Grandmother (Mamati) and Aunt, your prayers, guidance, strict mantra and philosophy in raising me up have created a God fearing, woman who at times deemed herself unworthy, but is confidently walking towards the path God mapped out for her. You have enriched my life with love, I’m truly blessed enkosi (thank you).
Does this new post mean that I’m back and ready to slay this blogging thing? The answer is yes, your girl is back, my bounce is back, your girl is back (cue Change Clothes by Jay Z).
With all that being said I have some really exciting news stay tuned…
Yours in new beginnings, peace, love and happiness.
The sweet murmur of life, your basking in the summer moonlight, the freedom lingers in the crisp summer air.
You’ve been walking for miles along people filled coastlines. You can still taste the sweetness of the strawberry sorbet you had for lunch. Barefooted on the beaches of South Africa, your feet grinding on the damp sand make you realize how much you missed summer.
The long nights of wearing short dresses and talking to cute well toned wet boys, hauling wet surfboards. You flirt with the idea of summer romances under bonfire filled beaches.
You look out into the distance and you’re in awe of the splendor of the moon, you focus on the cracking of the wood as it is Engulfed by the fire.
The sound of the ocean crashing against the pier is reminiscent of the many lovers lost and other romantically found under dim street lights, with hearts racing and the limp bodies of lovers being pumped by bottomless beers and sweet ciders. You consider for a moment the sweetness that comes with summer. The tearful laughter’s, the endless road trips and the indie tunes of beach house as the soundtrack to bring it all together.
Your heart is free to truly feel again, not bound by the many layers of winter. You’re inspired to write a novel, paint till the sun greets the day. Get lost in oceans deep, and discover many roads less traveled. Summer is not just a season, it’s a romance the kind that stays in your mind forever. It’s a feeling that drives you to tears in fits of laughter.
It’s your backpack filled with endless novels and empty pages left for free form doodles and sweet lipstick kisses.
Do you believe in second chances? That people can change and that the universe conspires to let things work in your favor? Imagine living out your day dreams waking up to the realization that your life may not be perfect but the way you wake up feeling happy, the Hope you have for tomorrow make it all seem perfect.
Life is never a straight and narrow road, there are disappointments, heartbreaks, we love and at times we lose ourselves. You were the light at the end of the tunnel, you were my rock when times got tough, you encouraged me to push myself harder, when I felt like I was losing my mind you gripped me tighter and told me everything is going to be alright.
When i stumbled and fell, crawled through the mud you were right there at the end of the mess ready to pick me up and wipe me clean. I sit here day dreaming of how far you have taken me, we would talk about traveling the world together, sharing ideas over a fresh pot of green tea in India. Lazy days falling asleep on hammocks.
Through the brightest of days or the scariest of nights you made me laugh louder and shared in my pain as you watched me cry myself to sleep, I disappointed you several times and every time I would hurt you, but there you were waiting for me to run back.
You told me that I am enough, that I am a promise. When I would ask you what’s next you would laugh and tell me to lean on you and not on my own understanding. I’ve pushed you for answers and threatened to leave if you would not give me what I wanted. I’ve been selfish, scared and anxious. But there was never a time when I felt alone even through the pain you were there, a light, my hope.
My Lord, my Heavenly Father, my hope and my everlasting home, my favorite day dream
About the look:
My dress is from YDE I love how romantic, ethereal and the boho chic twist, I wanted to make it cool and casual and less like I’m wearing a wedding dress. I paired the dress with sneakers and this cool rustic looking jacked from Forever 21.
You said we could make this work, in a ragging laughter I kept calling you a kite, you know I only have as much access to you as natural forces would allow me.
You let me fly half way across the universe only to discover that your mind is made up, that you would rather explore the four corners of the earth alone without me.
The road less travelled is a long winding road with various destinations along the way, we find love and we lose it, we see a shooting a star and in a glimpse it’s gone.
We swim through endless streams only to arrive on the other side broken and lost, the beauty of being young is that we’re constantly fighting with our internal selves. We play with the notion of freedom yet suffer in anxiety when things don’t go according to plan.
My dear you’re young still dabbling in your 20s, you’re not in a race, take your time, dance in the rain, laugh uncontrollably at yourself, wake up and dress up like your about to give the best performance of your life. Commit to nothing and explore everything (almost).
Love like your heart depends on it and when you walk away as hard as it may seem sometimes find the strength to love what God has created, indulge in as many amazing dishes as possible, don’t fuss about your weight too much curvy is also very cute.
Live your life, walk on the edge and don’t ever forget to smile and take those risks even if they don’t pay off you would have learned something new about yourself.
We recently celebrated Youth Mouth here in South Africa so to all the young people create your own oasis and chase after those dreams, dare to dream bigger each day.
About the look: I found this amazing striped jumpsuit at the sale section in Fochini, it’s the perfect piece for any occasion and any season. It was really hot this weekend and i wanted to go for a resort look.
The hat, the shoes and the clutch bag i feel are the perfect accessories to balance the slightly busy jumpsuit.
I really hope you enjoyed this look and post, please let me know what you think.
Winter is coming closer and closer in the Southern Hemisphere and I’ve rounded up my top three favorite trends:
I’m not really a massive trend follower but these are just a few trends which I feel are timeless you should definitely invest in any of these pieces as these trends are here to stay.
Beat the winter chill in a trendy Bomber Jackets
The first trend that I’m really loving for winter has to be the Bomber Jacket this is a really versatile piece as you can wear it for all seasons weather it’s winter or summer and I feel it’s a really great laying piece for winter. You can pair the bomber with some skinny jeans, a black polo neck or long sleeve t-shirt, your Adidas Superstars and throw on a cozy scarf.
There are a variety of bombers available from really light and silky to the puffier jackets, I would invest in both variations of jackets as I feel this 90s trend is here to stay. For warmer winter days you can pair the jacket with a velvet dress, some tights and boots.
Some celebrities that really rock this trend Kendal Jenner, Gigi Hadid and Rihanna.
Spice up your life with some color
Winter does not mean you have to be drenched in black, white and grey, why should winter be such drab. If you want to look comfy and make a statement at the same time, next time you go shopping opt out of buying a grey or black coat and try a mustard or royal blue color. A pop of color will really add that extra something special to an all-black outfit. If you’re not brave or aren’t keen on looking like a smarties box you can incorporate the trend as an accessory, so when your dressed in all black everything invest in a colorful beanie or buy a bright hand bag or hat that will take your look to the next level.
Some celebrities that really rock this trend are Julia Sarr Jamois, Miroslava Duma and Solange Knowles.
Be a boss chic in Faux Fur
Unfortunately the weather in South Africa is not cold enough to rock a head to toe faux fur look but boy do I love this trend, it just elevates my boss chic status. A light faux fur jacket could work really well with a velvet dress, a jumpsuit or paired with jeans and t-shirt to add that extra luxe factor to your look for the day.
Some celebrities that rock this trend are Kim Kardashian, Julia Sarr Jamois and Jennifer Lopez.
I really hoped you enjoyed the post tell me what your favorite winter trends are?
Sorry for the silence when life gets hectically busy I tend to lose focus and neglect your passions which for me amongst other things is blogging. So my style crush for this week has to be Yaya DaCosta, I mean look at all that hair, the colourful pieces and the fierce poses ohhh girl. She got me snapping my finger as well. She’s posing like the rent is due tomorrow.
What iconic musician does she remind you off? My pick would be Diana Ross
I first caught sight of Yaya from that TV show called Americas Next Top Model (ANTM) after she left the show she blossomed and became a well know face in the natural hair community with various images of her and her afro all over social networks.
She also caused what the media would label as “controversy” when she posed pictures of herself breast feeding her new born baby. Now if you ask there’s nothing controversial about feeding your baby I mean she/he has got to eat right? My opinion.
Back to the editorial these are the kind of images that you can stick up in an art gallery, hotel, restaurant or my future walk in closet (a girl has got to dream right?) the eclectic and colorful background really being out the texture and print in the clothing. When I see these images I instantly thing of Solange Knowles and how she could literally pull off anyone of these looks.
I’m inspired to go bolder and bolder with my fabric and colour choices next time I go shopping or thrifting, I hate boring clothing and this editorial reminds how life is too short to wear beige head to toe (my opinion).
